  1. Provision of BOHS P400 Series of Courses Begins

    February 1, 2007

Despite being a BOHS approved course provider for some time, due to the internal buy-out process and the subsequent move, course provision had proved impossible – until now!

This month we got off to a flying start with P402, P403 and P404 courses being run, with further of these courses, and the addition of a P405 course, in the pipeline.

An on-line diary of future courses has been created in the ‘Training and Seminars’ page of the ‘Services’section to cope with the demand. Book early to avoid disappointment.

  2. Re-branding and Marketing Drive

    January 1, 2007

To celebrate the New Year under the new ownership, a newer, fresher image was chosen. The original, somewhat retro, logo and design has been replaced by a more modern, forward looking livery that better represents the position and outlook of the Company.

The re-branding has been accompanied by a big push to get the new G & L consultancy brand and ethos out there, particularly in our satellite regions. The early results are very promising, with a good many clients not having received the type of service offered by G & L.

  3. Opening of Devon Branch

    October 1, 2006

Following the success and growth of our other offices, due in no small part to the increased customer satisfaction these offices generate, it was felt that the time was right to open a Devon Office.

The office was opened on the trading estate in Heathfield, conveniently placed on the A38 to provide quick and easy access to Exeter, Plymouth, Newton Abbot and Tor Bay. The office will be managed by Mr James Ooyman, who will be recruiting locally.

  4. Head Office Relocates to Creech St Michael

    August 1, 2006

Following the problems presented by having a Head Office on a split site, the Taunton and Creech Offices have come under one roof at the refurbished Creech St Michael site, which becomes the Somerset Office.

The new Somerset Office provides considerably better facilities than were available at the former Taunton Office, including an even bigger, purpose-designed Laboratory that will be able to be used not just for bulk sample analysis, but for the provision of the BOHS P401 training courses. In addition to this, the Seminar room has moved downstairs to a larger, even better equipped room, which is more conveniently located close to the Laboratory, DCU and enclosure.

By having all of the Head Office facilities under one roof we will be able to provide our clients with a better speed and quality of service.

  5. Internal Buy-out

    July 1, 2006

In July 2006, after a period of negotiation, an internal buy-out was agreed between the Directors and Julie and Paul Lewis bought out the other founding member of the Company; Nick Grinter. This was brought about by differences of opinion about the future direction of the Company which was not helped by the Head Office being on a split site. Ultimately, it was agreed that the best way forward for the Company was for it to rejoin on one site and Nick decided to move on to explore other opportunities.

The Company now looks forward to a period or re-growth, change and development.

  6. New Laboratory Fully Staffed

    January 1, 2006

Due to the ever increasing demand for bulk sample analysis, it was decided to increase the capacity of our Bulk Sample Laboratory, situated in the Taunton Office. In a major reshuffle, the ground floor office staff relocated upstairs to take advantage of the remaining space created by the opening of the Creech St Michael Office. The ground floor office was then refitted to Laboratory specifications and, in doing so, more than doubled the staffing potential of the Bulk Sample Analysis department.

The new Laboratory was fitted with eight work stations, an increase of three and this month the final two places have been filled.

This has not stopped us recruiting for further Trainee Asbestos Technicians and when the right person applies the number of work stations will grow once more.

  7. 40th Member of Staff starts work

    November 1, 2005

On the 9th March, Mr Terry Loker became our 40th member of staff.

Terry is an Asbestos Consultant who has returned to the Company after a six-month absence and will be working from the Creech St Michael Office.

  8. Birmingham Branch opens

    September 1, 2005

Although traditionally based in the South West of England, with the increasing amount of work coming in to the North of Bristol, an expansion in to the Midlands became inevitable.

The office will be managed by Mr Martin Bowden, who will be recruiting in the local area for both Trainee Asbestos Consultants and Trainee Asbestos Surveyors .

The Birmingham Branch will allow us to offer our ‘local’ rates to the Birmingham area, making our rates far more competitive than previously, when we were commuting from Bristol.

  9. 30th Member of Staff starts work

    March 1, 2005

On the 9th March, Mr Naeem Farzaneh became our 30th member of staff.

Naeem is a Trainee Asbestos Surveyor and will do his training from the Taunton Office before moving to Bristol and working from the Bristol Office.

  10. Creech St Michael Branch opens

    December 1, 2004

As a result of the continuing expansion of the Taunton Survey Department and Bulk Sample Analysis Laboratory, the Taunton Air MonitoringTraining and Asbestos Management Departments have moved to a new unit in Creech St Michael.

This new Creech St Michael Branch is closer and more convenient to the M5, making it quicker and easier for the site work and more convenient for candidates attending courses.

The new Branch will be under the overall control of Mr Paul Lewis, with Mr Mark Skinner running the Air Monitoring and Asbestos Management and Mr Austen Knight looking after the Training and Seminars. In addition, the Accounts and Credit Control will be run from the Creech Branch by Mrs Sally Monger.

The move to the new office is particularly important for the Training Department, as the Creech Branch has a dedicated seminar room and dedicated practical training facilities on the ground floor.
