Asbestos Awareness is a course created for people who are working near, but not with, asbestos.
The course is designed to provide anyone whose work could expose them to asbestos with sufficient knowledge to avoid putting themselves and others at risk.
There are no specific requirements for this course.
The syllabus comprises of six sections:
- Properties of asbestos and the history of its use
- Health effects of asbestos
- Types, uses and occurrences of ACMs (asbestos containing materials)
- Legislation of asbestos
- Emergency procedures
- Avoiding the risks of asbestos
Who is the course for?
It is made for those in the maintenance and building industry (such as electricians, plumbers, painters and decorators, construction workers and many more) who are likely to be exposed to asbestos.
How long is the course?
The Asbestos Awareness course takes half a day to complete (teaching must take at least three hours). There is a multiple choice assessment at the end of the course.
