The BOHS P400 Foundation Level course is a progression route to further asbestos qualifications for surveyors and analysists.
The course provides an introductory level of knowledge of the health risks of asbestos fibres, and how to manage asbestos containing materials in work.
There are no specific requirements for this course. However, it can be advantageous to have an awareness of both HSG248 Asbestos: The Analysts’ Guide (2nd Edition, July 2021) and HSG264 Asbestos: the survey guide (January 2010).
The syllabus comprises of four sections:
- Asbestos types, their utilisation, health effects, control and exposure limits
- Legislation and guidance documents
- The role of the analyst
- Personal protection and decontamination procedure
Who is the course for?
BOHS P400 is for anyone who is training to become an asbestos surveyor or analyst.
How long is the course?
The course requires at least 8 hours of study time, of which at least 6 hours will be taught (teaching and practical assessments), and 2 hours will be independent study to be completed in your own time. There is one 30 minute multiple choice examination.
Candidates who successfully pass the examination within 12 months will be presented with a Foundation Certificate in Asbestos.
